Hands-on-experience

If you are currently studying for a degree, our 8-week summer internships and 12-month industrial placements are a great way to immerse yourself in our world.

You will get to look inside a leading infrastructure, building, developments and housing group and find out about the work we do, and the sectors we support. All while getting valuable hands-on experience which will support your studies.

We carefully scrutinise students accepted on internships and industrial placements while they are with us, to identify high performers who would be suitable to fast-track onto our graduate programme at the end of their studies.

What you need to know

THE PROGRAMME
We are looking for people to fill a wide range of roles in construction, engineering, studying for professional qualifications in property related disciplines such as surveying and for support roles in project and programme management, IT, HR and finance.Where possible, 8-week internships will be based close to your home. Our 12-month industrial placements can be located anywhere in the UK. For both internships and industrial placements, you will receive a competitive remuneration package.


QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate they are committed to a career in the built environment. and on track to receive at least a 2:2 in a relevant degree. You should be enthusiastic, work well in a team and come with plenty of bright ideas. The ideal candidate will be keen to seek out new opportunities and find solutions to challenges.


How to apply

Candidates often come from our partner universities, but we do accept applications from individuals matching the same criteria. The competition is fierce for a limited number of places. We advertise internships and placements each autumn for the following year, so keep a close eye on our advertised roles for details of positions available.

DHD Degree

Earn while you study for a recognised BSc

Earn a degree while working at DHD

If you are looking for a way to study for a degree related to the built environment while earning a competitive salary, the DHD Degree Programme could be for you. The programme takes four to five years to complete and at the end of it you will receive a recognised BSc qualification with one of our partner universities. You will be permanently employed and gaining valuable work experience for most of the year. DHD will pay your tuition fees and release you to complete your studies in pre-determined residential block weeks,

During and after completion of the DHD Degree Programme, our trainees work in a variety of job roles including: quantity surveying, construction management, business development, building information modelling , health and safety, planning, estimating and civil engineering.


What you need to know

THE PROGRAMME

Each trainee has a dedicated mentor to support their development and the opportunity to gain professional membership, preparing them for a wide range of management roles.

QUALIFICATIONS

All applicants must be 18 or above, with at least 4 GCSEs Grades C/4 or above, including Maths and English. You will also require at least 2 A levels or equivalent level 3 diploma, preferably in a construction related subject. Specific requirements vary across the degrees and will be stated in the advertised job profile.


MATURE APPLICANTS

If you are a mature applicants without formal qualifications required, you will be considered on merit, taking into account their work experience as well as qualifications. To apply as a mature candidate, you should be able to demonstrate that you have the required level of knowledge and skills attained through relevant work experience and professional development.


THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications open for the DHD Degree Programme from January. Successfully shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview or an assessment centre. If selected at this stage a verbal offer of employment will be made and details confirmed, which may be subject to confirmation of exam results. This will then be followed by a formal written offer.


What qualification is right for you?

BSc Construction and Commercial Management - Covering a broad selections of subjects, this degree prepares you for roles including construction management, planning, BIM, estimating, and health & safety. You will be part of the site team liaising with subcontractors, planners, quantity surveyors and operatives to ensure that the project runs smoothly, safely, according to the plans and on time.

BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management - As a quantity surveyor, you will play a key role in a construction project, managing the costs from the early design plans, through to completion. Your priorities will be to make sure that projects meet legal and quality standards and that clients get good value for money.

BSc Civil Engineering - As a civil engineer you will be the key technical person involved in the designing, planning and managing of construction projects, able to think both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems.
